Even though I live in Las Vegas, like most visitors, I’ve always been mesmerized by the unique charm and brilliance of the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign! This iconic landmark serves as a symbol of the city and a beacon to those seeking adventure in the city of lights.
For tourists and locals alike, its welcoming glow symbolizes the excitement and possibilities that lay within Las Vegas. It’s not just a sign. It promises memorable experiences, from sightseeing in Vegas and exploring Las Vegas culture to diving into a whirlwind of Las Vegas adventures.
The allure of snapping a photo with the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, sharing that moment, and knowing you’ve stood at the gateway to iconic Vegas experiences draws countless visitors each year.
Is the Las Vegas Sign free?
Indeed, the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign stands out as a beacon for tourists, offering a cost-effective way to experience the city’s vibrant culture without spending a dime!
Where is the real Las Vegas Sign?
You may encounter numerous replicas of the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign at hotels and shops all along The Strip.
However, the ‘real’ Las Vegas Sign, a unique and special landmark, is located in the median at the south end of the famous Las Vegas Strip, just past Mandalay Bay.
This iconic landmark, open 24/7, 365 days, offers a distinct and privileged experience to its visitors.
Location: 5100 Las Vegas Blvd S. Las Vegas, NV 89119
Can you walk to the Vegas Sign from The Strip?
It might seem like you can walk to the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign from The Strip. But in reality, it’s not that easy. So, instead of walking to the Sign, I suggest hailing a taxi or requesting an Uber.
You’ll notice the many types of vehicles in the free parking lot at the Sign, from Uber and Lyft to taxis, rental cars, limousines, party buses, and group bus tours!
The sign marks the end of the southern portion of the Vegas Strip, and it’s a significant walking distance from the last hotel on the south end, Mandalay Bay. The sign also sits on a median surrounded by high traffic on Las Vegas Boulevard, beyond the renowned Strip’s “Scenic Route.”
Can you take pictures at the Las Vegas Sign?
Yes, and here are my tips for taking the best pictures at the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, day or night!
7 tips for taking pictures at the Las Vegas Sign
1. Arrive early or late in the day to capture the Welcome to Las Vegas Sign in the best light while avoiding the daily crowds and the summer’s intense heat.
2. Take pictures during Golden Hour, the time in the evening just before sunset. This time makes for stunning Vegas photos and selfies!
3. Use the flash at night when capturing photographs at the Vegas Sign to ensure your subjects are well-lit. On the other hand, for daytime photos, it’s best to rely on natural light for the most stunning results.
4. Work all the angles of the Sign for an incredibly photogenic experience! Exploring pictures and videos of this landmark from various sides immerses you in a piece of Las Vegas history, making your trip unforgettable.
5. Bring a tripod, Gimbal stabilizer, or a selfie stick if you aim for that perfect shot. It stabilizes your camera, especially when handing it off to someone else to snap the pic.
6. You don’t have to pay to take a picture, so don’t be concerned if individuals are trying to coordinate the flow of people taking pictures in front of the Sign. These individuals are independent workers, not city employees. Their assistance is optional, but they mostly provide a good service. If you choose to use their services to take your picture, it’s customary to tip them.
7. Feel free to propose a trade with the people behind you. For instance, you can offer to take their picture in front of the Sign if they, in turn, take yours!
Are there two Las Vegas Signs?
There is only one landmark, Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, so don’t be mistaken by the many replicas and similar signs around the city. This includes the “Welcome to Fabulous Downtown Las Vegas” sign at the Fremont Street Experience, and the “City of Las Vegas” sign at the north end of The Strip, near the last Strip hotel, The Strat.
While these signs also make great photo ops, they don’t look like the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign tourists worldwide have come to know and love.
The sign at the north end, headed towards Downtown Las Vegas, acknowledges where the City of Las Vegas takes up jurisdiction and where the town of Paradise, which hosts most of the Vegas Strip, ends.
